A discussion of Harm Reduction as it relates to Recovery.

This symposium brings together clinicians and mangers from the Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health Sectors and Service Users to showcase the spectrum of Harm Reduction as it relates Recovery. As a way to showcase innovative work being done in this area. The central themes will be about the clinical applications of recovery work, implementation and Integration and Leadership – ‘Making it Happen.’

Confirmed Key Note Speakers:

Mr. Andrew Fraser

For thirty years Fraser was one of Australia’s high-profile criminal lawyers. As his success as the “go to” lawyer grew, so did his addiction to cocaine. Eventually cocaine use unravelled everything. Fraser has now gone full circle. He is a champion of survival, overcoming adversity through persistence and perseverance.


Dr David Best

In June 2011, David took up the position of  Associate Professor of Addiction at Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre and Monash University, where he continuous to work around treatment effectiveness and recovery . He is currently attempting to develop a recovery movement in research and in treatment practice in Victoria and more widely in Australia.


Dr Debra Rickwood

Debra is internationally recognised for her research on youth mental health.  She's worked with the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health Queensland to develop key directions to promote social and emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Queensland, and is currently working with the Centre on a major project to support the promotion of mental health in rural and remote communities in Australia.

The Treacy Centre is housed in a magnificent Victorian Mansion dating to 1873 and yet only minutes away from Melbourne's CBD. This unique building still retains all of its rich, heritage listed beauty, whilst providing the best in modern technical facilities.


The Treacy Conference Centre is located  just 3 km from the Melbourne CBD at 126 The Avenue (near the corner of  Royal Parade and Walker Street)  Parkville. The Centre is also just minutes away from the Zoo, the State Netball centre, Hockey Centre and Melbourne University.

Stepping Up (SU) is an innovative and award-winning Consortium of four well established non-for-profit organisations; Interact Australia,Odyssey House Victoria,TaskForce and Youth Projects.

 

The Consortium has significant experience working with marginalised individuals with complex needs such as Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Users, persons with Mental Health Issues, persons with Intellectual Disabilities, persons with Acquired Brain Injuries, Families, Job Seekers and Prisoners and Offenders pre and post-release.

To be a leading provider of therapeutic and community based services to people with complex needs at the intersection of addiction, disability, mental health, unemployment and justice sectors by identifying gaps in service provision and developing innovative responses that deliver improved outcomes.
